Below is an article describing the contests at our 2010 Show. The ariticle was originally published in our CDOCA newsletter "The Rig"
The Show opened at 9:30 Sunday morning and while there was not a great line-up waiting at the gate, there was a steady stream of visitors. Like the auction, attendance was down however there were many familiar faces from across Southern Ontario, New York and Michigan. Joe Engers brought a good selection of back copies of Decoy Magazine and Copley Fine Auctions carried their auction catalogs and previewed pieces for their next auction. The other exhibitors offered a good range of collectible decoys, especially for those new to collecting. There would have been even more on offer but two major exhibitors had to cancel for unavoidable reasons. We will have to wait to see them next year. The identification table, always a popular feature of the show, was again hosted by Robert Ward and Robert Ward Jr.
The Display
The Favourite Decoys Display this year was truly in the hands of our members. The concept was for each member to bring one or two of their favourite decoys to share with the rest of the attendees. Dozens of decoys turned up and were neatly displayed by Jeff Mewburn, our Display Coordinator. It was a splendid array of fine decoys in several species and by many makers for example:
